Teaching strategies will vary to some extent according to individual modules, outlined within each module description. However, there is considerable emphasis upon delegate centered appoach in all modules. An important element of the teaching and learning strategy is drawing upon the marketing and business experiences of programme participants. Whilst maintaining the academic standards of a post gradute Diploma delegates will be encouraged, wherever possible, to integrate their personal development plans and organisational interests into the analysis of actual strategic marketing related issues.
Within diversity of teaching strategies in modules the overall strategy of the programme is based upon Kolb's Experimental Learning Cycle, expressed as follows:
To encourage delegates to apply their learning to the work situation, they will be required to maintain a Critical Learning Review. This log will form a permanent record of experimental learning (based on Kolb's model). They will be issued with this guide and informally reviewed during each of the first three workshops. They will be assessed during the final workshop.
Each workshop will typically make use of current case study material and video teaching media as well as more traditional format inputs and discussions/activity sessions. The small size of the group will facilitate extensive interaction between tutors and participants.
Local guest speakers may be used to provide practical insights into relevant management issues, especially on the SMM: Analysis and Decision Module.
All modules will rely extensively on directed reading being undertaken by participants as part of their planned learning experience. This will include pre-and post-workshop directed reading, but will also encourage wider reading around the topic areas.
